Origins

In 1928, Doctor Ramon Albó (1871-1955), a renowned jurist from Barcelona, founded the Obra Tutelar Agrària (OTA). It was a non-profit organization that aimed to serve neglected and socially excluded children.

To achieve this goal, Dr. Ramon Albó created a network of family homes and agricultural colonies to offer children in situations of high social vulnerability a healthy life in a rural environment and, at the same time, future opportunities.

Its objective was to create a series of modern institutions and to drive necessary legislative changes to prevent children from being sent to correctional facilities.

Currently, the Foundation has two agricultural colonies, Santa Maria del Vallès, in Lliçà de Vall (Barcelona), and Santa Maria de Gimenells (Lleida).
