Santa Maria de Gimenells Residences

Assisted living for 16 to 18 year olds

Vivendes Santa Maria de Gimenells assisted living apartments are housing services with an assistance, educational, and job placement focus for young people between 16 and 18 years old for whom it is considered necessary to begin a progressive depersonalization process to achieve adulthood with sufficient capacity for social integration, while maintaining guardianship and control by the public minor protection entity.

There are two apartments, and each one houses 8 boys.

Objectives

The main objective of this resource is to respond to situations and needs that require specialized technical care as an alternative to the child's family of origin, offering shelter, education, and preparation for independent living.

The main objective is autonomy, thus training for the boys is enhanced so that they acquire the necessary competencies for the full autonomy they will have upon reaching adulthood. Along these lines, the boys in the Residences learn to perform household tasks (cleaning, cooking, etc.), they must take care of household management and personal organization, so that the day they leave the child protection system they are fully capable of self-managing.

Another of the primordial objectives is Training and employment. Your training in different areas is very important: social skills, basic communication competencies (both oral and written), and labor competencies. This way, the boys acquire essential learning that enables them to access the job market.

This entire process is carried out with the accompaniment and supervision of an educator 24 hours a day.

Educational Team

On each floor, the boys live together accompanied by 6 professionals (with a degree in Social Education or equivalent, one of them specialized in Labor Integration), a director, and, indirectly in terms of attention to the boys, a cook.
